As concern for the six miners trapped in a mine in Utah increased, Jim McConkie, Brad Parker, and other personal injury attorneys met to talk about mine safety standards which sometimes result in the wrongful death of coal miners. McConkie said that sometimes the safety regulations contained in the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 are ignored. The purpose of the act is assure health and safety of miners. When the act was passed the Congress found that there was an “urgent need” to provide “more effective means and measures for improving the working conditions and practices in the Nation’s coal” mines.
