Jim McConkie and Brad Parker spoke with other members of the legal community about the Bush administrations failure to strictly enforce mining safety regulations. Mr. McConkie said that this administration has issued fewer and smaller major fines and has failed to collect half of the money that violators owed.” Such lapses contribute to an environment where accidents happen. When personal injuries occur the results can be serious. Mr. Parker said that “Lax enforcement could be a serious problem in Utah where mines operate daily.”
