A 53-year-old Winnemucca man driving at a high rate of speed on Interstate 80 in Nevada lost control of his BMW and hit a van yesterday afternoon. The impact caused the van to roll several times after it left the pavement. The passenger, 46-year-old Damon Faust of Mapleton, was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver, Barbara Faust, was transported to a Reno hospital with serious injuries.
The Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Trooper Mike Stapledon at (775) 689-4623 (case number NHP-0909200761). Preliminary reports, however, indicate that the BMW was headed east at a very high rate speed and that another motorist may have speeding and driving recklessly. It appears that Anthony Rock, the BMW driver, applied his brakes which caused the car to skid and hit the left rear corner of the Faust van. Rock was transported for moderate injuries.
