It’s something that many who regularly drive in Salt Lake City have anecdotally observed for years: Salt Lake City drivers are terrible.  A recent Allstate Insurance’s America’s Best Drivers report confirms those observations.  Here are the numbers:

  • Salt Lake City is ranked 78 among the 200 largest cities;
  • On average, Salt Lake City drivers will have an accident every 9.5 years, while the national average is every 10 years;
  • Salt Lake City drivers are 5.3 percent more likely to have an accident than their counterparts in other cties;
  • When rankings were adjusted to account for rain and snow, Salt Lake City dropped 10 spots to 88 out of 200;
  • When rankings were adjusted to account for population density, Salt Lake City dropped to 127; and
  • Salt Lake City drivers slammed on their brakes 17.8 times for every 1,000 miles driven.

Since July 4th is the deadliest day on America’s roadways, the report provides a timely reminder to be careful out there.
