Toshiba Recalls Notebook Computer Batteries Due to Fire Hazard

Comments Off

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in conjunction with Toshiba America issued a recall of approximately 1,400 computer notebook batteries on August 9th. The lithium-ion batteries used as a power source for these computers can overheat and catch on fire.

Defective batteries manufactured by Sony were installed in Toshiba computers with model names such as Portege, Qosmio, Satellite, and Tecra. There have been no known injuries that have occurred as a result of these batteries, but as a precautionary measure consumers should take the time to have their batteries exchanged.

Consumers can contact Toshiba and they will be able to receive instruction for safe and free battery replacement. Toshiba America suggests users can also continue to operate their computers with the benefit of an A/C power cord adapter until all battery issues are resolved.
