Are Bicyclists Getting Too Much Sun?

Comments Off

Researchers at the University of Utah have undertaken a study to assess sun exposure for bicyclists. Dermatologist Christopher Hull, himself a rider, came up with the idea of putting dosimeters, meters that measure UV exposure, on bicycle helmets.

For his trial run, Dr. Hull selected pro-riders Dave Zabriskie and Jeff Louder. Both are competing in the Tour of Utah, a 325 mile, six day bike race across Utah that began on Tuesday.

The goal of the study is to help bicyclists, and other outdoor enthusiasts, understand the sun they are exposed to as they enjoy the outdoors so they can assess their risks and work to minimize them.
