Woman Sues Hospital for Infection

Comments Off

A woman is suing a hospital for medical malpractice after she contracted a flesh eating bacteria and had to have her limbs amputated.

The lawsuit, filed in state circuit court, against South Seminole Hospital, seeks unspecified damages. It alleges the hospital failed to detect early signs of an infection, in April 2005, after giving birth to her son.

According to medical reports, she developed a form of streptococcus, that resisted conventional treatments. She went into shock, gangrene set in, her kidneys started to shut down and doctors were forced to amputate her limbs to save her life.

The lawsuit names the hospital; the parent company, Orlando Regional Healthcare System, two doctors, a nurse and finally two midwives.
