Jim McConkie spoke to a group of lawyers at the law firm Prince Yeates in Salt Lake CIty, Utah today on cerebral palsy (CP) injuries which are a result of medical negligence at the time of birth. He said that each year 20% of children diagnosed with CP developed it as a result of a brain injury at the time of birth which could have been avoided. In fact 8,000 to 10,000 babies are diagnosed with CP each year and CP is the second most common neurolgical impairment in childhood. McConkie explained that often times CP cannot be fully diagnosed until a child is two or three years old and begins to exhibit the physical signs and symptoms of the injury.
