Distracted Driver Kills Another Utahn

Comments Off

An 80-year-old woman died earlier this week after she was struck by a small truck while she was walking through a Shopko parking lot in Logan. Barbara McGregor Hales, a retired Utah State University professor, was critically injured Monday morning and she succumbed to her injuries at approximately 6:20 p.m.

Some reports have the driver of the pick-up texting or e-mailing at the time of the accident. Other reports have him briefly looking at the merchandise he just purchased rather than looking where he was going in the parking lot. It really does not matter. The perils of distracted driving should now be etched in the consciousness of every driver – but unfortunately that is not the case. Hales is one of three people in Logan who died in the month of August.

Here is a good video on distracted driving, especially for young drivers:

And the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has a wealth of information designed to address the dangers of drowsy and distracted driving. At the end of the day, so to speak, it is the responsibility of every driver to be on the top of their game whenever they get behind the wheel.
